Educators Express Disappointment Over School Board's Response to Raise and Working Conditions Concerns |
Teachers and staff within the Liberty Union High School District (LUHSD) are preparing to scale back on additional duties as they continue to advocate for substantial salary increases and improved working conditions.
The decision follows recent remarks by LUHSD School Board President Susan Wallace, which have intensified educators' dissatisfaction.
Wallace stated, "We are waiting for our partners to respond to our team’s last offer. We approach both teams to continue to work together to reach an agreement, so you present it to us as soon as possible. We appreciate you. We take this seriously. You’re in constant communication with our negotiating team. We don’t think this is new information. You are not operating in a bubble. We appreciate you coming."
These comments have been met with disappointment among the district's teachers.
Liberty Education Association President Marty Dodson questioned Wallace's remarks, reflecting the growing frustration among educators.
In contrast, neighboring districts have recently reached agreements that address similar concerns.
For instance, the San Lorenzo Unified School District approved a two-year contract granting teachers a 9% pay raise, culminating in a total 32% increase since 2022.
Similarly, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the United Teachers Los Angeles reached a tentative agreement that includes a 21% salary increase, reduced class sizes, and enhanced student support staffing.
These developments underscore the pressing need for LUHSD to address its educators' demands to maintain a motivated and effective teaching workforce.
As negotiations continue, the district faces mounting pressure to find a resolution that acknowledges and values the contributions of its teachers. |
