Historic Landmark Relocated for Future Community Display |
The City of Brentwood has successfully preserved the iconic Flag Barn façade from the Vasco Hills Regional Preserve, ensuring its legacy continues within the community.
On September 29, 2025, the East Bay Regional Park District dismantled the deteriorating structure and transferred the façade to Brentwood for future display at the Brentwood Municipal Services Center or a city park.
Park officials had assessed the barn multiple times, determining it was unsafe and at risk of collapse, especially with the impending fall and winter seasons.
The barn, painted with the American flag in 2001 as a symbol of patriotism following the 9/11 attacks, had become a landmark for drivers along Vasco Road.
Max Korten, Deputy General Manager at the Park District, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, "This project reflects the strength of community partnership. The Flag Barn façade has deep meaning for many residents, and we are proud to work with the City of Brentwood to preserve this piece of local history."
The Park District funded the dismantling and transportation of the façade, while the City of Brentwood ensured its careful removal and preservation.
City staff, equipped with specialized tools, meticulously removed the barn's siding to protect this significant piece of Brentwood's history and community pride.
The preserved panels were delivered to the city for storage until future restoration plans are developed in coordination with community partners and stakeholders.
This effort underscores Brentwood's commitment to preserving its cultural landmarks and fostering community pride.
Residents can look forward to seeing the Flag Barn façade displayed prominently in the near future, serving as a reminder of the city's rich history and resilience. |
