Oakley Kids Fishing Derby Brings a Classic Summer Morning to the Antioch-Oakley Pier on August 8

Summer events do not always need a big stage to feel memorable. Sometimes it is a fishing pole, a stretch of Delta water, and a morning that gives kids something to focus on besides screens and schedules. That is the appeal behind Oakley’s annual Kids Fishing Derby, returning Saturday, August 8 at the Antioch-Oakley Pier.

The derby is open to children up to age 15, and registration is free. Check-in is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., with fishing running from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Antioch-Oakley Pier off Bridgehead Road in Oakley.

This is set up as a catch-and-release event, so children will be helped with releasing fish after they are logged. That keeps the morning centered on the experience itself: the quiet concentration, the excitement of a tug on the line, and the simple satisfaction of being out by the water for a few unhurried hours.
