Chrome Coffee Grew From a Pandemic Cart Into Two East County Cafes

When Moriah Mesina lost her job during the pandemic, she did not sit still for long. She came back home to Brentwood, saved what she could, and showed up to a November 2020 pop-up with a simple coffee cart that would eventually become Chrome Coffee.

What started as a small pandemic-era setup has since grown into two East County cafes, one in downtown Brentwood and another in downtown Oakley. That kind of growth says as much about persistence as it does about coffee, especially in a part of the county where locally rooted gathering places still matter.

Moriah's connection to coffee started early, shaped by family traditions and later deepened through specialty coffee culture in college. As she learned more about sourcing, flavor, and the treatment of workers in the industry, Chrome Coffee became a chance to build something more thoughtful from the ground up.

The business evolved from pop-ups and micro weddings into a seafoam-green trailer, then into a small Antioch storefront, before expanding to 637 1st Street in downtown Brentwood and later to 3350 Main Street in downtown Oakley. The larger Oakley cafe added indoor seating, open mic space, and more room for the kind of community presence that helps a coffee shop become part of local routine.

That community feel is part of what makes Chrome Coffee stand out. Moriah draws inspiration from her Puerto Rican heritage, collaborates with other local and Latina-owned businesses, and has built spaces that work just as well for a quick morning stop as they do for a slower catch-up later in the day.

For East County residents, Chrome Coffee feels like more than a place to grab caffeine. It is the kind of local business story that reflects resilience, neighborhood identity, and the growing appetite for spaces that feel personal rather than generic.
