A decade of hope and healing in the fight against suicide |
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk returns to Oakley, CA, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, marking its 10th anniversary in the community's ongoing commitment to suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
Hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), this free, family-friendly event invites participants to walk in honor of loved ones, volunteer, and connect with local resources. The walk will take place at Civic Center Park, located at 3221 Main Street, Oakley. Check-in begins at 8:00 AM, followed by an opening ceremony at 9:00 AM, and the walk commencing at 9:30 AM.
Attendees can look forward to morning refreshments, an Honor Bead ceremony, and a memorial garden, all designed to foster a sense of community and support. This year's event is especially significant, as it celebrates a decade of bringing the community together in hope and healing.
In recent years, Oakley has seen substantial growth and development. The city approved a 55-acre regional park master plan, emphasizing access to the Delta waterfront, including amenities like a boat launch, fishing areas, and an all-abilities playground. Additionally, Oakley has been proactive in economic development, offering programs to support local businesses and entrepreneurs.
These developments reflect Oakley's dedication to enhancing community well-being, making it an ideal setting for events like the Out of the Darkness Community Walk. By participating, residents not only honor those affected by suicide but also contribute to a broader movement promoting mental health awareness and support.
