Monthly open mic welcomes poets and listeners of all experience levels on Thursday May 14
Brentwood has a monthly space for writers to share their work out loud. The Open Mic Poetry night meets on the second Thursday of each month at Barnes and Noble on Sand Creek Road, with the next gathering on Thursday May 14.
The format is simple: show up, sign up, and read. Each person gets a few minutes at the microphone. Some participants bring original poems, others read work they admire. The audience is made up of other writers, curious listeners, and regulars who have been coming for months.
For a town without a dedicated poetry venue, the monthly meetup fills a gap. It gives local writers a place to test new material, hear how their work sounds spoken aloud, and connect with others who are putting words on the page. The event has been running since early 2025 and has built a small but steady following.
No registration is required. Show up a few minutes early to sign up for a slot.
